Hello, my names Dave, and I have a 6 1/2 yr old male iguana named Rocky. I've had him since he was a few months old, and everything has been fine until the past two days. He was always normal, not very aggressive, unless he was real hungry when I fed him. But the past two days, everytime I go into his enclosure, he'll lunge at me and try to bite me. Whether it be my head, or my finger, he'll try to bite me. Its gotten to the point where I have to use one of his blankets (at night I cover up the enclosure with a blanket) to protect my head so it doesn't bite my ear. And when I use that, he'll bite the blanket, and won't let go, unless I pull on it to the point where he can't bite it anymore. When he bites the blanket, I have to pull him out of the cage, and most of the time I can just pull out the blanket and he'll just be hanging on the blanket, which shows you how hard he really is biting it. When I eventually get him off, he'll either go after me, even I'm standing a few feet away, or bite one of the blankets I have on my bed. At one point he went after me and jumped up onto my leg and bit my pants around my knee, making a nice hole in them by the time I pulled him off.
Just today, he was down at the other end of his enclosure (which is about 6 feet long) and all I had to do was open the door and stick my finger in around his basking shelf, and he immediately turned around and ran down in an attempt to bite me. I really don't know what to do, hes never done it *this* much before, because in the past he has been known to do is a few times, but never for two whole days, it was few and far between. I've been feeding him enough food, so thats not the problem. In fact, even when hes just ate, he'll still do this, so its not like hes confusing me or anything else for food. I really don't know what to do, except minimize the time I spend in his cage, which is really only to feed him, clean out his "tub", and clean up the rest of the cage a little. Any suggestions? Thanks.
