I suppose your boy friend didnt like very much to be chased by a jealous iguana!!Talking about your neck and the love affair your iguana wanted to have with you (!!!), do you think an iguana can recognize a human neck as a... neck that should be bitten during the intercourse?? ??Our neck is so different from an iguana neck!!

:Flavia, I'm going to take your idea even one step further. Perhaps your iguanas do not attack you, becuase they know you are female. I had a large male who would get very aggressive during breeding season. He was all bluff with me usually. For my boyfriend, though, watch out! SJ HATED my boyfriend, and would charge him whenever he could! He (SJ) chased him (the boyfriend) down the hallway of our house mor than once. I asked my vet why SJ tolerated me even in his hormone induced craziness, but hated my boyfriend so much. He suggested that SJ saw my boyfriend as his competition for my attention, that is that SJ thought I was "his girl" and the boyfriend should be dealt with like any other competing iguana! I thought this was crazy at first, but I did a little research and I guess there is evidence that male iguanas kept by female keepers react to their keeper's monthly cycle. I still was not sure (since I had never noticed SJ behave differently at any particular time of the month...) until one time I was sitting on the couch watching TV, and SJ was laying along the back of the couch. The next thing I knew, he pounced on me and bit my neck! This was different from his aggressive displays, though. There was no dewlap extended, body inflated display, he just pounced! I have always wondered if he really did see me as his "mate", and thus had carnal intentions when he bit my neck ;) since in actual iguana breeding, the male bites the neck of the female...

:Anyways, I wonder if Rocky IS finally trying to exert his alpha-ness, and he sees his keeper (I'm assuming male, sorry if I'm wrong!) as competition.

:
::In my very-very humble opinion, all (or almost all) the omega igs will try to be the alpha iguana one day.Its just a matter of time.Perhaps (its just a guess!) your ig has been feeling an omega ig (inferior) compared to you for years and years without reacting because he thought you still were stronger than him.Well, now (for any reason) he is feeling stronger than you and apt to fight for a better position in the iguana hierarchy(=He wants to be the Alpha male!).
::Thats why I think its no use for the owners to compete with an iguana for the alpha ig place!!If the iguana feels inferior sooner or later he will confront the owner because he wants to be the Alpha iguana in your house!!
::I try NEVER to compete with my igs.I show them Im their friend, not a contestant!
::Perhaps thats the reason I never was attacked by any of them!!

::. :Hello, my names Dave, and I have a 6 1/2 yr old male iguana named Rocky. I've had him since he was a few months old, and everything has been fine until the past two days. He was always normal, not very aggressive, unless he was real hungry when I fed him. But the past two days, everytime I go into his enclosure, he'll lunge at me and try to bite me. Whether it be my head, or my finger, he'll try to bite me. Its gotten to the point where I have to use one of his blankets (at night I cover up the enclosure with a blanket) to protect my head so it doesn't bite my ear. And when I use that, he'll bite the blanket, and won't let go, unless I pull on it to the point where he can't bite it anymore. When he bites the blanket, I have to pull him out of the cage, and most of the time I can just pull out the blanket and he'll just be hanging on the blanket, which shows you how hard he really is biting it. When I eventually get him off, he'll either go after me, even I'm standing a few feet away, or bite one of the blankets I have on my bed. At one point he went after me and jumped up onto my leg and bit my pants around my knee, making a nice hole in them by the time I pulled him off.

:::Just today, he was down at the other end of his enclosure (which is about 6 feet long) and all I had to do was open the door and stick my finger in around his basking shelf, and he immediately turned around and ran down in an attempt to bite me. I really don't know what to do, hes never done it *this* much before, because in the past he has been known to do is a few times, but never for two whole days, it was few and far between. I've been feeding him enough food, so thats not the problem. In fact, even when hes just ate, he'll still do this, so its not like hes confusing me or anything else for food. I really don't know what to do, except minimize the time I spend in his cage, which is really only to feed him, clean out his "tub", and clean up the rest of the cage a little. Any suggestions? Thanks.
