I travel with my dogs competing all over, and one of the most popular items in the dog world are mesh dog crates. They fold down flat, and are easy to put up. They aren't cheap, but some of them are quite large. My friends borzoi fits in hers nicely, its some 4'hx3'wx5'l. It might be an option for a portable ig enclosure. The nylon is very durable, it holds up to the dogs well so an ig for a few days would be fine I'm sure. I wouldn't use one as a permanent enclosure, but it'd make a nice, portable place for your ig once you get to where you're going. Here's a couple of sites, there's tons more styles out there.

:Large Rubbermaid conatiners have worked well for us. If you're concerned about heat, you can pick up a power inverter for all of $40 or so and use that to run a heating pad or any other heat source. Disposable heat packs and water bottles are also an option.
:For cages, try looking at PVC designs. Whip out a couple of panels, hold them together with wingnuts and bolts and it can probably be set up and broken down in under an hour. Make it a size that can be transported in the car and at least Phil will have SOME room when he gets to Grandma's house, can still get his UV exposure if you bring a lamp with you and still be protected from the cat.
