I am designing an out-door enclosure for a friend (a very slick enclosure may I add ;-).
Being out-door, it will measure about 12 feet in length (oh yeah) 8 to 10 feet high (still undecided) and 8 feet wide (drool drool drool...).
He wants some real plants in it, which means he also wants grass. Now, I saw at my (quiet reputable) pet store that they sell WHEAT GRASS. It says to be very digestible and edible to almost any animal, from reptiles (pictured there were a turtle and an iguana) to birds and mammals. Sounded wonderful, and told my friend about it. He was happy and excited, but after 2 minutes we stopped and asked ourselves:
Fact or marketing bull scat?
This is where ur infinte wisdom comes into place.
The enclosure will be built in the spring of 2003. 8 feet will be flat at ground level, and the last 4feet as a 4-foot hill...very cool...with a cave for burrowing and such. Then there will be "trees" and etc.
So is it a go for the wheat grass? This is for substrate, not food, but since iguanas put anything in their mouths, im sure some grass will be consumed.
What do you think? Oh, and to add the cool factor, we'll plant basil, sage, and mint to give the place an nice scent (plus they're edible plants that regrow after the winter, so why not).
If the iguana dies he can always cook it Italian style by adding the basil (KIDDING!) and some tomatoes
(not included in the cage).
So what do u think of the wheat grass? Yay or nay?
Regards,
-IJ
