My igs area all free-roaming, but they have as their base my iguana room (others would call it the breakfast room ;). I keep a free-standing radiant oil heater going in there 24/7/365, changing only the setting (from 600 to 1500 watts) as needed to maintain daytime temps in the 80s and nights in the 60s/70s. Because of the placement of shelves and heating pads, and east and south exposures, I can maintain a variety of vertical and horizontal gradients in there.
To keep the heat from escaping through the doorless opening into the kitchen, I installed a dowel (using the plastic things sold to mount clothes hanging rods in closets) across the opening and have a plastic drop cloth draped over it, forming two layers. I just sliced a central opening so I can easily pass in and out, and the cloth stops about 4 inches above the floor, allowing the igs, tortoises (when they are inside) and blue-tongue skink easy access in and out of the room. The room is also home to my ball python and Vietnamese leaf turtle, each in sections of the room where their temp needs are best met.
There are some photos showing some of the shelving in my Setting up basking areas for free-roaming iguanas article.
