A dewlap that is always tucked up under the neck in the presence of humans, or certain humans, or other animals (or certain other animals, including igs) is a sign of nervousness.
Once an iguana is comfortable, the dewlap will hang in a relaxed manner, gently flapping as they walk and move. This is very different from the rigidly extended dewlap common in aggressive and defensive displays.
Setting the dewlap in a relaxed flare (it will easily fold when you gently apply a little pressure with the side of your finger to the leading edge of the 'lap) while orienting the side of the body towards the sun helps increase the surface area exposed to the sun which helps speed the iguana's warming. ;)
