You want to stay away from things like this for the same reason. I believe there is some problem with suffocating--skin not breathing or something along those lines.
Sometimes bent tips will happen, you just have to work the spike shed loose when it is ready to come off. Oftentimes they will lose the very tip of their spines in the process.

:how about olive oil on spikes...have you heard of that? Or is that not good either because it is not water soluble?
:I mist Joey with water at least 3x per day and also give him tubby time; but just today I noticed that his first spike is a little bent on the tip. I thought olive oil would help though, cause a vet recommended it for helping shed.

::I would try warm water soaks. I don't think vaseline is the way to go. If you really need something, I've heard people using Aloe vera gel which is more water soluable. I would first try plain water though.
