Caging material can depend on what area you live in (how cold it gets). More insulated material like wood and plexiglass works better if you are up north. I used melamine and plexi for mine, with hardware cloth on top for the lights and ventilation. If you keep your home warm or live in the South, you could go with rubber coated wire or plastic hardware cloth for the sides. My ig is a nose rubber so I am forced into using smooth surfaces so he doesn't damage his nose further. Ironically he never rubs on smooth surfaces at all. Here is a photo of my cage and a link to some pricing info. You can cut costs by using wood instead of melamine and using less plexi.
:Also, this MIGHT be a problem. The light has been on every day for too long. About 5 hrs too long! (12 on and 12 off is right, right?) I've corrected that with a timer that turns it on and off. Also, anyone got any ideas on a covering material for a new cage? (Plywood, hardware cloth) I'm going to try to build one onto the inside of my room. (Kinda like a big closet) Any suggestions?

::My iguana is now 4 feet I believe and he is more tame than he has ever been...but still no joy to hold! Once in awhile he will give me a nice hug or sit still in my arms for a few minutes. He doesn't like to be carried around but every once in awhile he'll let me do it without causing trouble. My point is that you can reach a certain level of tameness, but don't think it will ever be a cake walk. Some iguanas are more mellow than others, but if you have a nervous one like mine, you can only work toward getting rid of the aggression, but not the stubborn streak! Good luck :)
