zilla used to do the same thing when we first put him in his new cage. He would see something through the glass that he thought he could jump to and would smack into the glass. We covered it temporarily and he finally stopped. I have not once seen him do it again. HOWEVER, when he wants to get off his basking shelf and go to the floor, I would say about 80 percent of the time he dives straight off rather than climbing down the ladder. This worries me because he had a spinal injury in the past and I dont want him to hurt himself again. His cage floor is padded with blankets.
