I have 12 cats at home, have had dogs, small animals and fish in the past. Must admit I am totally crazy for my Lizzy.
My cats were all there before Lizzy, well the last two came after her. Cats are just fine little beings, they can be aloof and also want nothing more than to cuddle and be close to you. seems you had a bad experience with one and that may have soured you some.
Also like snakes and all other reptiles and would have many more, space, money and time permitting.
My husband will on occassion feed Lizzy but handle her no, that is strictly for me to do.
Yes many people cringe when they see her and wonder how I can care got a cold blooded creature, why not I ask them. Lizzy is a beautiful female Ig that I have come to love and cherish very much, she is beautiful, but then again so are my cats and fish.
So all God's creature should be hled in the highest esteem, loved, pampered and cared for.
