I understand. Along with a young iguana, I also have a cat and a dog and two bearded dragons and several finches.
Not all 'cat people' are dippy broads who go 'icch' when they see something cold blooded. And cats aren't "stupid", just not as easily controlled as dogs.
Actually, I find a lot of similarity between iggies and cats. They don't bark, they can do quite well without your constant attention and, unless you choose too, they never have to go outside. I have a dog and they are a lot more work if you ask me.
I'm not really offended or anything like that, just, don't blame the cats if you've encountered loony cat owners. It's not the cat's fault. The cat's just probably trying to set the owner straight!
