Uh Oh, is something wrong with Spike's butt?!?

I've been noticing for the past couple of weeks that something strange happens when Spike poops. I'm not sure if this has always happened and I just never noticed or if this is something that I should worry about.

When the poop is coming out or near the end of the poop, a fleshy something comes out of his vent. Its pinkish about 3/4 of an inch long and no thicker than a finger. It always goes right back in after he has finished pooping and it doesn't seem to *hurt* although it may be mildly uncomfortable in the water. I think this might be why he's been pooping on (and in) my bed. He takes a long time to poop now (which could be because he is eating much less). I'm just wondering what that tissue is and if the water doesn't sort of "sting" that tissue.

Any ideas?
