Iguana info please.

i have a year and a half old female iguana, i got it off someone who did not care for it correctly...ie.. no uv lights no heat pad ect.. i got all the things reqired and built it a new home in my house with trees ect.. it has plenty of room and height now and has started to get use to me. I can feed it by hand and get it to climb on to me but if i were to go in and try to pick it up it becomes scared and has even bit once (painfull), is this just a case of letting her become used to me ?? Also i was wanting to know if you cut their nails, some people say yes others no ???.
