when young, the desert igs do have some protein in their diet, and i heard even in adulthood, 10% of it is protein, much like ctenosauras.
however, they need lotsa veggies and fruits, cuz that's where they mainly get their water from. Remember, these are lizards that can tolerate even temps of 110F!
Always provide water though. And make sure the enclosure is VERY VERY big....these are desert lizards that need to run as well, much like a frilled lizard.
