A large horizontal sliding window or patio door makes a great cage door. If it's a window, make sure it's the heavy-duty one that slides/rolls on wheels on a track. They work well, last longer than a simple sliding window(less friction), and open even if the animal kicks dirt into the track. A window is very easy to install, you will just need to frame it with 2x2's and attach to the front of the cage. A double glass window keeps heat in the cage much better than a single layer of glass. The windows/doors also solve the problems you might have with glass sheets - they will not chip or crack on corners when you slide them :) Unfortunately, if the window glass is only 1/8" thick, it may not withstand a leaping impact from an adult ig. Make sure it is at least 1/4" thick or reinforced...
I have been able to get cage materials, including doors and windows, very cheaply by talking with neighbors who were remodeling their houses. Very often they discard old doors and windows (which are still in good shape), and sometimes they also have leftover boards and sheets of plywood :)
