Many years ago (when I was really tiny but still a voracious reader), I found a circa-1950 or something book about falconry in the library. The first few chapters were about catching your bird, since back then I suppose captive breeding wasn't common if done at all. Please no flames if these methods sound cruel, I'm just sharing what I remember reading, I don't necessarily endorse them.

The first method was to place a net in front of a place they'd have to fly to (such as in the book, a clearing in the woods, or in your case, in front of the feeding area). The net was something like the fishing line material so they wouldn't see it and get caught. It then suggested wrapping them in a towel while disentangling them (obviously you'd have to supervise the whole time, not do this and leave for the day).

Another one, and I'm not sure how this works, was to take a tarp and have a series of nylon sliding nooses on it so that when they landed on it to feed, they would get their foot caught and not be able to fly off, the tarp being mounted on the ground.

Again, I'm not attesting to the humaneness of these methods and I've of course never tried them, I'm just sharing what I've read about catching birds. I'm not sure the normal live animal traps work too well for birds though, they are certain different little critters. I hope that you do manage to catch the little guy and get it a good home. Please tell us how things work out. Thanks.
