In Reply to: Anyone here got birds? Loose parakeet in chicago, help... posted by catsandlizards on September 16, 2002 at 10:00:38:
And 3 Budgies (Parakeets).
As far as catching a bird as small as a parakeet, its gonna be tough. I wouldn't even be able to begin to tell you how to get your hands on it... Our Lilac Crowned Amazon was a foundling... But that was an easier catch since it is a larger bird, and was just sitting in a tree. It was caught in a T shirt, and brought home. We searched for its owners for weeks... No one wanted the poor thing I guess. And with no band - it is even harder to trace it.
The only Parakeets I have caught have been indoors, and it was just a matter of throwing a towel over them. If people would just keep their bird's wings CLIPPED, these things would not happen...

:Well there is a loose green parakeet coming to eat the food hubyy puts out for the sparrows here.
:Having cats and Lizzy not sure how to even attempt to catch a bird outside.
:We live in Chicago and weather still nice but getting colder in the evening, not sure if a parakket can survive outside.
:I posted on the parakeet forum and on my cats boards I visit as many of my friends have birds so hopefully with a lot of cross posting I can get some advise as to how to help this little girl/guy.
