if they didn't one iguana would act like another. Mine couldn't have been more different! I do not disagree that we do apply many human traits to our igs because we want to believe they have more emotion than they probably do, but they certainly are not all the same. And I would never call them lower forms of life. There is no reason for a tier. Different yes, lower--no. We all have our place and all serve our function in the life cycle. One is not more important and we all need each other. Humans are actually probably the most unnecessary in the life cycle (speaking from Nature's viewpoint). We're unbalanced now...that is until the next single cell organism or virus comes along to wipe half of us out. It's strange how the smallest forms of life will probably be the most harmful for us (unless of course we do it first through war, etc.)
:Anthropomorphism or the tendency to apply human traits, emotions, and behaviors, to non-human species. I beleive that this is almost impossible to avoid when you live with animals unless you are doing so in a strictly non-emotional, scientific, type environment for example in a laboratory, or commercial type situation (the meat industry for example) If you keep and love animals, of whatever species and identify with them, you look at them as something other than (and I really HATE this term)lower forms of life. They assume a personna and character all their own as individuals. My feelings of this grow the longer I associate with any given animal and learn their personalities. My rational mind may tell me that it's all just instinctual or learned survival behavior, but what can I say I am a hopeless romantic at heart and my Ig loves me (or at least the plate of greens I'm carrying LOL!)
