It sounds like you handled everything very well. I don't know how old you are, but I think you did a lot better than most adults. It sounds like you found the balance between lecturing ( really boring) and just giving out factual information (which is appreciated by more people-especially parents. Maybe you could make up some very simple 3 x 5 care and info cards which some simple facts, so that the next time your go out you can hand out the cards to folks that are interested - that way you won't run the risk of losing your voice by repeating the same story and over - just a thought.
