actually, the only reason i'm considering one now is that we built a new cage a few weeks ago with plans to install the tube UV fixture soon after as we hadn't found one we were happy with yet. now it seems it would be much easier to just put an active UV bulb in one of the 4 current fixtures instead of figuring out a clever way to install the 48" tube. right now we have one reptile floodlight, a normal 60watt bulb, and a ceramic heater, with one open spot not currently being used. all of those stay on all day and only the ceramic one stays on throughout the night, and the temps are staying ok. figure i could probably swap out the regular lightbulb with the active UV, only on for maybe 4 hours a day (i don't know exactly how long i should keep it on.... suggestions?) depending on how much heat those things put out. either way you look at it it's going to be a lot easier than putting in that tube UV fixture.
thoughts?

:Then you would have to provide alternate heating and lighting sources as your iguana still requires the tropical day and night temperatures every day and night. If the purpose of using a mercury vapor product is to cut down on the number of fixtures and outlets one needs, turning it off to reduce overall UVA and UVB isn't going to eliminate the need for multiple fixtures and outlets. ;)
