Im pretty sure (knowing myself) I would have said this in the first post, however I personally would have it amputated rather than waiting. If it were my iguana, I would just have the thing cut off and deal with all clean flesh. If you go to the below link and under the Musculoskeletal section, you will see a few articles on tails and their health. Hope this will explain why if it were mine I would have the amputation done.

:I checked with the vet guy that works at the pet shop, and he said what I have is a broken tail. There are no black spots on the rest of Gir... just his tail, which looks about ready to fall off today ::sighs::
:The vet yelled at the pet store owner for having more than one iguana in a ten gallon tank on display and told me to watch the tail... if it is only a broken tail it will fall off and I should clean it with peroxide and use neosporin on it... both of which I have on hand, at the moment...
:So... that is what I shall do. Unless something else happens.
