I have never had any of my iguanas loose any spines from the leashes I have used. But Claw has gotten out of just about every leash I have tried. I just think of the leash as something to give me a little extra time to catch my iguanas if they try to run away. I just let my igs roam until it looks like they might get in trouble (eat an unidentified plant, hide under the house...), and then they go back on my shoulder and into the house. Many time, my igs are content to just bask in the sun on the steps.
