I feel like the worst humommy in the whole world. It's a gorgeous day here, so we went out to sit on the lawn, with Amazon secured by a hip leash.
A loud motorcycle went by, and Amazon started to run. When she got to the end of her leash, the tail wiggled like crazy and dropped off.
I know he can do just fine without it and being so young, it might even regenerate somewhat, but I can't help feeling I failed Amazon. All that beautiful striped tail was my responsibility and I didn't make him feel safe enough to keep it intact.
Amazon seems just fine, though, floating gently in a Betadine bath. We already had a vet appointment on Monday, so I just plan to keep the end well coated with Neosporin and a bit of surgical glue to keep it clean and dry.
It's just all so upsetting, going outside with a gorgeous little 14 inch iglet and coming back inside with only 8 5/8 inches left.
I think I'm going to have a long cry, and then invite some friends over to bury the tail by Amazon's favorite climbing tree.
