You're right it sucks! And yes, most animal control people are equipped with tranquilizers,...mammal tranquilizers. They wouldn't have the faintest idea what or how much to use on a large reptile. Like Mr D stated below most of these people are trained in dealing with regular domestics like dogs, cats, killer guinea pigs, etc. With all the species of exotics that people are keeping they would darn near have to become a veterinarian themselves to be up on all that is required to deal with whatever they came across. And how many vets would work for what the state pays animal control officers.
