It is fruitless to try to deal directly with Flukers or PetsMart. Contacting the CDC was good, but better is going directly to the state department of public health in the state in which the infected lizards were sold as pets. They would be the ones to do the testing on the lizards and with whom the family physician would be dealing. If you can't easily find the state DPH listing in the state's website (http://www.state.xx.us, where xx = the state's two letter abbreviation), then go back to the CDC site, to http://www.cdc.gov/search.htm. Just scroll down the page a bit and you will see links to each state's state's DPH.
The state may refer the family back to the county department of health. I can see why the family may not want to be involved, but the bottom line is: they are and will have to be, through their pediatrician if nothing else...
