If the shed on the spikes does not have enough moisture to come off, the shed will strangulate the spike growth and cause the bleeding that you see. Soaks in a warm tub or running the shower on the spikes will help. You can also take a wet wash clothes and put it on your iguanas back. Your iguana will be fine. Many iguanas have broken spikes.
