um hi iz`s mom, i just wanted to know what you are feeding your ig because i have a quite runty ig that i hvae had for the last 5 months after i rescued him from my brother. but he is about a year 1/2 old maybe a little less. and he is only 8 inches svl. he only wieghs about a half a pound, may be a little less. he doesn`t look skinny. you can`t see his ribs or anything. i have taken him to a vet and they said he looked healthy with the exception of a broken toe, but that was a very old injury( the vet said he was probably wild caught and it probably happened in capture). but it just seems like he is growing so slow! he was about 6 svl when i got him 5 mos ago. he has grown, but i am just worried that he is not growng like he should be. he doesn`t have any illnesses that i know of, including mbd. he is very active and alert. he is bright green with blue on the back of his neck( very pretty) does he sound healthy to you? he is very strong despits his small size an he loves to climb up the bricks on my fireplace in my living room. i am currently in the process of building him a new cage, and also a pvc baskng spot for when he is out of his cage.he is housed in a 55 gallon aqurium right now. i know its too small, but i let him out a lot and he will have a new cage in a few weeks. what do you suggesst i do about his size and weight? if there is anything that can be done.....
thanx in advance,
meagan

: cage/enclosure size IS NOT a factor in how fast igs grow!!!!!!!!!! they will NOT stay small or grow slower if you keep them in a small space! that will only serve to stress them out, make them sick [and mean] ..... : ( *not* to be harsh toward *you*!!! iZ's previous 'human' was also under that false impression + had him in a 40 gal aquarium before he moved in with me ...

: as far as *how fast* he'll grow ... here's iZ's vitals from his 'baby book':

: 3/97 10" svl, 30" stl, <1 lb [iZ moves in ... **very sick**! should probably be dead ... sleeps in water dish so it won't go away when he's not looking ... eats constantly!]
: 6/97 1.2 lbs [gaining weight but you can still count his ribs from across the room, eats 3,4 + 5 times a day]
: 9/97 13.5" svl, 40" stl, 2 lbs!! [now parasite free + being properly cared for : ) have to get close to him to count his ribs, shows mom his hemipenes! eeeeeewwww!]
: 12/97 14" svl, 44" stl 3 lbs [outgrew his 6'x5'x4' enclosure, mom gives up + iZ gets own room]
:
: 3/98 16" svl, 48" stl 3.75 lbs
: 9/98 18 svl, 54" stl, 6 lbs

: 3/99 20" svl, 60" stl, 8.5 lbs (*seems to have* slowed down growing length-wise + is working on 'bulking up' now! is actually getting a very attractive 'pot-belly'!!!*grin*)

: ahhhhh ... looking thru baby books always makes me a bit sniffly ... i think i'll go hug my iguana now ... *VBG*

: iZ's sentimental human
