According to the e-mail I received from IBAMA ( ill post it here)iguanas come from hot regions all over Brazil.According to the document I already posted here, (in the extreme right) iguanas in Brazil also come from "cerrado" and "caatinga".Caatinga is not semi tropical, caatinga is semi arid!.Cerrado and caatinga are the driest place in Brazil.People die there during the dry season. No water at all!!Vegetation?Cactus and thorn scrub!6 months without water!!It is located in the northern areas, a very hot climate indeed! My house in Brasilia is located in the cerrado also.Sometimes the humidity level is below 20%!!
I am not saying humidifiers are bad for iguanas, I am saying they DONT need it to thrive, that's all.

People think that northern Brazil=tropical forest. It is not like that!!It used to be 500 hundred years ago, but since then people destroyed the forests and large part of the land became semi arid.

In Melissa Kaplan's book she said iguanas are from the northern part of Brazil and draw a lot of trees!!!She forgot all the semi arid regions (caatinga and cerrado)

I am happy to know iguanas are soo strong they can even live in semi arid regions. That means when the Amazon forest is gone they will still be here!!

Flavia

Iguanas dont need humidity to be at a certain level. Living in a dry house is not the same as living in even a desert(which a green iguana can not live in, only other types of igs), because outside there is some degree of humidity, and in your house, it is usually very dry, which is very bad for iguanas, and will make it so they don't shed, and other health related problems. Iguanas are semi-tropical. They DO need humidity, whether it be by way of misting or humidifier, of which I use the latter.

: : Why you fellow herpers want to raise the ambient room humidity in the iguana's room??Can someone explain that to me??
: : As everybody in this FORUM already knows I am Brazilian and in my country the iguanas live in all the hot and warm areas EVEN in the DESERTIC ones!!
: : To confirm that impression I received an e-mail from IBAMA (the Brazilian Institute of Protection of the Environment) stating exactly what I am saying.According to IBAMA the "iguana iguana" is NOT a lizard from tropical humid climate and can be found all over the Brazilian territory except in the cold areas.According to them the lizards in general are very good in avoiding body's water loss and take great part of the water they need from the fresh food they eat.
