Well, I am by no means an expert, but here's my $.02. I always thought we provided humidifiers because iguanas were indeed from tropical humid environments. I have heard of research that has shown that a majority of captive iguanas suffer from chronic low grade dehydration, and a humidifier can help reduce that chance. Also, here in the states, at least, it is very common to use air conditioning to keep the temperature in a comfortable range for the human family members. Another byproduct of air conditioning is that it also pulls the humidity out of the air. Although iguanas have adapted to live in even some of the driest areas of Brazil, I wonder how a "dry" area of Brazil compares to the dry areas of the USA. Please forgive my geographic ignorance, I am not trying to be a jerk here, I just don't know. Are there dry areas with very little humidity or rainfall in Brazil? (I always thought of Brazil as a tropical rainforest environment, the kind of place I would love to see!) If so, I wonder if those iguanas are adapted better to the dry climate than the farm raised variety usually found here in the States... Lastly, I just kind of see it as something that can't hurt. As long as I keep the humidifier clean so it is not spewing out bacteria to make JJ sick, I don't see how it can hurt, and *may* help her overall health. On a side note, she really seems to like it. I have seen her sitting on her branch, eyes closed in iguana bliss and leaning sideways to put her entire upper body in the mist. OK, like I said, I am no expert, anyone feel free to correct me, or add to my opinion.

: Why you fellow herpers want to raise the ambient room humidity in the iguana's room??Can someone explain that to me??
: As everybody in this FORUM already knows I am Brazilian and in my country the iguanas live in all the hot and warm areas EVEN in the DESERTIC ones!!
: To confirm that impression I received an e-mail from IBAMA (the Brazilian Institute of Protection of the Environment) stating exactly what I am saying.According to IBAMA the "iguana iguana" is NOT a lizard from tropical humid climate and can be found all over the Brazilian territory except in the cold areas.According to them the lizards in general are very good in avoiding body's water loss and take great part of the water they need from the fresh food they eat.
