Okay here it goes, our iguana poops once every 3 weeks!! I cannot believe that nobody elses does not do this.
We have had the iguana for 4 years now and it always has done this. It's not due to poor husbandry. We have the big iguana manual and have researched everything we need to know.
The lights, heat, humidity are all right. We have several digital thermos, we have the automatic light shutdown.
It gets the right diet. 30-40% greens, 30-40% vegs, 10% fruit.
The problem is that it is a very very very stubborn iguana. It has a gigantic enclosure, about 6 feet long, 7 feet high, with three stories in it.
When it was little we would let it run around and would try to potty train it. Everything that we tried has failed. It would go on our bed, and get under the covers and poop.
It will not take a bath, I tried introducing it the slow way. A couple drops of water, a inch of water. Tried to to this every day to get it used to it, nothing.
Because of these factors it does not come out of its cage anymore, which it really didn't want to anyways, just to poop.
I do not think this is a medical problem because I would have taken it to the vet, I think that it is so stubborn if it doesn't get to poop on a blanket that it just doesn't poop.
Maybe i should just throw a blanket on the bottom and wash it every day, I don't know.
I have tried putting a kitty litter box of water in its cage, i have tried putting newspaper down. nothing works. I feel like its making fun of me saying, "haha I won't go unless its on a blanket"!
I am not really alarmed because it is 4 years old and has been doing this since it was a baby.
Because it only poops every three weeks, I have to build it a new cage every two years, because even though I clean it throughly, after awhile it starts to smell. I was wondering if people could put pics of their iguanas enclosures so I could get some new ideas.
Thanks
