The only way to tame/socialize and ig is to get them used to it. a daily routine will help. try hand feeding at first, let them know that the big scary hand in their home is not going to squash them. Never try and pick them up from above, instead, try and scoop him up. The only way they'll be tame when they're 6 feet is if you handle them everyday when they're young.

if they run away, or bit, or tail-whip and you stip trying then they will know that all they have to do to get you out of the cage is to run, bit, ect.
persistance and patience are KEY.
