Your lizard was too hot. In the wild they go from shade to sun to regulate their internal body temps. Left in the sun they can die from overheating and heat exhaustion. She was panting cause she can't sweat, no sweat glands. Breathing in cooler air helps her regulate her temps.
Also, I find that lizards that are overheated are also becomming dehydrated, so you should offer as much drinking water as possible.
If you are going to put her outside, she needs a lot of room to get from sun to shade, especially shade that is cooler, not just out of the sun, but out of the heat.
A note: dehydration can lead to kidney failure do to lack of liquids.
I would make sure that your lizard has lots of drinking water right now.
