You might want to try looking at a lexan/acrylic/plexiglass product somewhere in the vicinity of 1/4" - 1/2" thick instead of actual glass. This could actually be cut into any dimension you like but I believe "standard" lengths are simply 4'x8' sheets. Ask about it at the same place.

As far as a mercury vapor bulb, a 160w bulb should be fine for an enclosure that size but I, personally, would go with a flood for igs also. While the spots do kick out more UVB they also tend to produce quite a bit more heat as well. Unless you were planning on having the basking location 3'-4' away from the bulb I'd suggest a 160w flood from either T-Rex or PowerSun and place it roughly 18" away from the basking location possibly a little more. And unless it appears too dark in the enclosure asthetically you shouldn't need another light source. Of course, you WILL need a night time heat source....

Since you are considering building an enclosure, consider looking at radiant heat panels for ambient heat. We've been running an Enerjoy RHP controlled by an ESU temp cpntroller for over 2 years now constantly without any problems whatsoever. Check out the bulbs and RHPs at HerpSupplies.com. We do all of our business there exclusively.

You may also want to humidify the enclosure. Take a look at the Vicks ultrasonic humidifiers. Wal/K-mart etc. should carry them for roughly $40 as opposed to a reptile-specific "misting system". With a little PVC plumbing these units can actually be plumbed to direct humidity wherever you want it to enter the enclosure while keeping the unit itself outside the enclosure for easy filling/cleaning access. It also ensures that the ig won't use it for ...umm... "target practice" shall we say....;)
