Here's the story with the crate...

It's a plastic crate with one of those mesh fronts. The mesh front is covered with a sheet of opaque plastic (lots of holes) so that he can't see out and try to escape. The rest is just those little airholes in the sides. The cage was closed when I found it and I have no idea how he gets outside...
Anyway, Phil is about 8" SVL (he's about 6 weeks shy of being a year old and a little runty) and looks like he's doing OK this morning (we treated him with peroxide last night and his tail looks much happier this morning). He's holed up in the bathroom, but doesn't look too happy about it. We hate caging him, so he was on our shoulders/laps/etc all day and he gave me the worst look when I put him up. I feel horrible.
