: I believe Phoebe is a girl but she is only 2 years old. So unfortunately no one is really sure what she is, she/he. Anyway I am interested in finding out what it would cost (so far the rates have been around the same where ever you live from my experience)?
: And how old does the ig have to be?
: Also, if Phoebe is a male --- do they spay/neuter them also and does that change their "aggressive behavior" if they do get spayed?
: Thanks, Annie
The spay cost me $352.00. That included the antibiotcs also. After A LOT of checking around, I have found price ranges from $250 - $750!!! As far as age goes...It is best to spay them when they are bulging with eggs, and about the earliest age they generally become gravid for the 1st time is around 2 years old, give or take a few months. Daisy was approx 2 1/2 - 3 yrs old on her first clutch. The first two clutches went just about perfect, then drastically worse after that. On the last cluth (before this one) she resorbed the eggs (folicles). We thought she might do that this time, but did not. I have read that spaying can calm down a female that gets a little "hormonal" during the gravid period. And I have heard that neutering a male can help with aggressive behavior also. I think that there have probably been more spays done on igs than neutering, due to the fact that the female was probably in risk of her life if it was not done. I really don't know how much a neuter would cost. Many years a go, I had to give my male to another person, because he got VERY aggressive with me. It was bad, but ONLY towards me. And NOT just when I was on my period. All the time, non-stop. It was a bad situation.
