Since these bulbs should be used more for a combination of UV exposure and basking source you're most likely going to want a heat source to control the ambient temp of your enclosure. I actually run a 100w flood Active in my 6x6x3 with the basking shelf approx. 18" under the bulb which usually puts Mel at 14-16" away. Ambient temp is controlled by an 18"x24" 150w Enerjoy radient heat panelmounted on the ceiling of the enclosure and controlled by an ESU temp controller. The controller/panel have been running 24/7 for more than two years now and with absolutely zero problems.
There IS an old fluo tube also being used in the enclosure but at this point it is strictly for ambient light as it's been running for over a year itself. If you are concerned about the enclosure being too dark I'd suggest mounting a regular fluo tube somewhere that the ig can't get at it and go with either a 100w or 160w flood bulb MAXIMUM. Not having used a 275 yet I can only speculate the amount of heat that they throw bot maybe I can put it in a small amount of perspective. We're currently running (5) 160w floods, (3) 100w floods and (1) 160w spot in a roughly 14x12x8 tall room. On a day where the outdoor temp reaches 75-80* I have to open the windows in the room in order to spill heat generated strictly by these bulbs - otherwise the room will hit in excess of 100*. Personally, I'd recommend staying away from the 275's for just about anything other than UV lighting for a full room used as an iguana room. If the basking spots are placed within 16-24" of the bulb a 100 or 160w flood should be more than adequate for providing UV exposure & basking heat.
On a seperate note - no, you shouldn't stare at these bulbs. While the UV rapidly decays after approximately 12" to the side of the fixture the light itself is still extremely bright. While Mom may have said don't run with scissors no one really had to explain to me not to stare at the sun. More than a second or so really hurt. Smae principle should apply here. And if you are going to be actually working in the enclosure for more than a few minutes - shut the bulb off and rely on those fluo tubes to see if you need extra light.....
