Couple things for you....
Take a few pics of the ig in case a cruelty investigation DOES open up. They may be useful. Regardless, they may serve well as comparison down the road. If the Humane Society didn't vet check the ig, even though it may come out of your pocket it would be a good idea to have it seen if nothing else just for a general checkup so you know what you're dealing with. You may be able to become a "foster" home for the ig if/when a case is built which takes the ig off their hands and gets it more specialized care than they may be able to provide. If you mention to the vet that the ig is involved in a cruelty case s/he may want to assist you in the form of reduced rates, etc. especially if you are an approved "foster" home.
Also, if you already have the PowerSun and the enclosure ready, try running the enclosure for a 12 hour period - monitoring the temps to make sure that the enclosure doesn't overheat. Indoor/outdoor thermometers/hygrometers can be found in many department stores (Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc.) and run as little as $20. They also record high/low temps and humidity levels as well.
As far as web sites go, make sure you continue researching. If information appears on at least 2 or 3 sites, chances are that it is reliable info BUT not always. Hatfield's book will give you a lot of insight as well. You're already breaking one of Ms. Kaplan's "mantras" simply by choosing to use a mercury vapor bulb....;) Don't read anything into that... For what it's worth, we're currently using 23 of them here - both Actives and PowerSuns. Don't hesitate to ask Q's either.
Good luck....
