Hi all,
I'm planning on going into business building reptile cages, specifically igs & beardies since they're the most popular. I keep a turtle, so I've got the basic reptile know-how, but I'm wondering if igs have any special needs you can give me pointers on.
My basic plan is this: A mesh inset in the lid for the basking lights, the fluorescent fixture to be mounted inside across the roof. Slate feeding ledge with inset water dish. Tiled floor with tiles a couple inches up the sides to hold substrate & make for easy clean up. Plexiglass doors. Built-in cave(s), allowances for live plants & waterfalls.
My questions:
1. What's a good size for 1-2 babies? I'm thinking 3' long, 18" wide, 2' high.
2. What's the best location for the humidity guage? Is it most important at the basking spot or in the cooler areas?
3. Do they require soaking dishes?
4. What basking temp do they need? What temps do they like in other areas, including caves?
5. Will incandescent/halogen fixtures on the roof be sufficient to heat an enclosure that size, or do you recommend heating pads? I've heard bad things about them, and don't want to endager other people's animals!
6. Should the cave be damper than the rest of the enclosure?
7. How often is it necessary to open the enclosure for cleaning, bathing etc. (aside from feeding)?
Thanks for any & all help. Feel free to email me, too.
Natalie
