Do you trust your vet is very experienced with reptiles? You may want to find another because his back definitely looks wrong. He looks like he has MBD....and could use some serious calcium supplements if not injections and as much unfiltered sunlight as you can get him (and plenty of UV light when he is in his cage)

The hand thing could be a sign of this as well. The only other thing I can think of is if he broke or fractured his back but I'm not sure he'd be mobile if that were the case. And if he did fracture it, chances are it is because his bones are weak from MBD anyway.

Did you adopt him? What is his history? You can definitely tame him and heal him up if you work at it, but you will need a good vet. And, he will probably always be a bit bent! (but you'll love him anyway). In the meantime, make sure your diet is very calcium rich, make sure he is parasite free (fresh stool to the vet), if your vet thinks he's fine...have him check the blood....will show his calcium levels.

Be gentle...maybe go easy with handling him until you have a clear picture of his health. If he is fragile right now, you don't want to cause anymore breaks. Once he is stronger, you should handle him multiple times daily for short periods to tame him down.

Keep us posted.
