How did your vet instruct you to administer the Baytril? Something I didn't realize until Shirley got her hysterectomy last year, was that Ig anatomy is such that, in order for the medication to be effective, it must be injected above the shoulder line.

Shirley got her shots in on either side of her neck . . . but ended up w/some scars on her outer skin. I'm giving Romeo baytril injections now (for something else), but this time injecting in muscle of the forearm.

The first reptile vet I went to didn't follow this practice but the guy I've been seeing since Shirley operation does. I have no proof myself, but he did tell me a story the other day about how anesthetic injected in an Ig's back leg didn't work. Ig only fell asleep after injection was done in it's front leg.

As for amputating the necrotic digit. That may actually be the best bet. Your Ig will be fine without his toe. If it's was just 1 toe, and it had been caught BEFORE the infection had spread further, amputation definitely would have been best solution. Antibiotics can be hard on these guys kidney's.

Good luck,
Rebecca

: Hi there. This is another sad story of an abused iggy, whom i have taken in my home and try to save now :-( i have him in my home now for 6 months, at first it looked like he was getting better, but 2 weeks ago he stoped eating, i have fed him myself now for two weeks, he now tries to eat, but only very little pieces, and he looks like he's in a lot of pain, because he's hand is all swollown up. eventhough i checked him well since he got in. i have never noticed the swollowed hand. My iggy has an infection in his hand. i've already been to the vet twice, and now he gets antibiotics...but has anyone any experience, or good results with it. because in the past i know of an iggy whom has been treated with the antibiotica: Baytrill, with no succes. He didn't make it :-((. So is it wise to use this antibiotica?i also got baytrill..0,05Ml per day from the vet . And because of the infection his middle finger has got necrotics (necrose) he wil amputate it's finger :-(. Please has anyone any experience with this?

: my iggy thanks you!!!
