Hi All,
Once again, the diet controversy has run amuck on the various Forums and Lists. I followed these postings and replies closely. Particularly the very well written and documented essay which thoroughly and convincing reputed most claims made by The Iguana Den diet. I wish to sincerely thank all of those involved for their time and effort in writing it.
My personal take on all of this is that until the Maders, Fryes, Kaplins, Hatfields, and etc. make a big swing from current beliefs, I will continue to use what has apparently worked for me for the last 5 years or so. It is high Calcium, low Phosphorus diet with very little Ca binding oxalates and supplementation. The appearance of my animals is excellent and blood work is always returned with very minor or no problems.
I will not go into the details here as I have posted it in different places several times. It consists of about 15 items of which only 8 are used on a regular daily basis. It is a diet which some of the ingredients can be found in any of the popular ones used today. I do not advocate it for everyone but it has worked for me and when my vet sees my herps he tells me how great they look and to keep doing what I am doing. The moral of this is to develop a good healthy diet, which works for you and your herps.
IMO everyone should be very cautious about jumping onto the latest fad diets, especially when they are in conflict with current conventional wisdom. It should also be kept in mind when evaluating my statements that most of my experience is with Igs.
I wish to thank everyone for their consideration of my ramblings. Happy Herping, Iguana03
