Again almost every iguana bought at a pet store was feed LARGE amounts of animal protein . The breeding farms in south America feed them LARGE amounts to give them a growth spurt ( as a hi level of animal protein has been proven to do ) so your iguana unless you got it from a US breeder then it has already ate animal protein in LARGE amounts before you ever got him/her . The standard belief is large amounts over TIME is what can cause harm . Even that problem many believe can be averted with a good supply of fresh water .

What study says this ? Author and date please .

I agree with you that no animal protein is necessary or needed to raise a healthy green iguana . I myself do not feed them any nor do I tell people they need to .
