The smell is caused by oils called phenols. They make dwarf hamster's hair fall out and give reptiles respiratory infections. Pine's a little better as far as rodents go but still too strong
for reptiles according to the books i've read. The only animal in my house that uses cedar is my dog. Her bed is stuffed with it, but she's not in her crate 24/7.
