I also believe them to be quite intelligent... they have proven that to me time and time again. And, they have a good memory which amazes me. Sleestack figured out a new way to climb somewhere he is not allowed to go. Well, since then, I have covered up this area so he can't get any footholds. (this was over a week ago) Can you believe he still goes over and studies this area..attempting to get up there. He remembers that he could once get up there (even though he only did it a couple times). Besides that, igs can be potty trained, wait at the refrigerator until you give them a snack, run after you if you are eating something they want, and hold a grudge when you go on vacation! (etc. etc.)

I will not argue that some iguanas enjoy affection/attention since many claim that theirs do. (I try to be very impartial with my lizards and study them....and still have not decided whether they enjoy affection or not) One thing I do believe is that when they close their eyes, they are not enjoying the attention. The rest of the body language points to the contrary. It seems to be toleration, not enjoyment. With their eyes open, dewlap in, relaxed posture, sitting still with no attempts at fleeing....that MAY signify enjoyment (or maybe just trust and apathy)
