Things such as commercial "Reptariums" are not much better for igs than "tanks" for similar reasons. They simply do not hold heat or humidity at all and, in my own preliminary testing last year, the mesh proved to block approximately 50% of necessary UVB meaning that even as "outdoor" enclosures they were not very well suited. More testing will be done soon to confirm/deny this as we now have a professional, high quality radiometer at our disposal.
On top of that, claws can easily become entangled in the mesh. Best bet is to start examining your living space and see where an appropriate sized enclosure would be able to live in your house. If properly built(proper heat, light, humidity) it could physically go anywhere. Start examining various enclosures that you trip over on line and incorporate any features that you feel necessary into your own design.
And if your parents still aren't convinced once they read these replies drop us a line. We'll be more than happy to talk to either/both of them on the phone if they'd like.
