Well, JJ went to see the doctor this weekend. He was as stumped as I was as to what was causing the belly blisters. He asked a ton of questions about husbandry and said it sounded like I was doing a great job. He took a sample of the liquid and looked at it under the microscope, but didn't really see anything. I had him send a sample of it to the lab for a culture, to see if anything could be figured out that way. (Results in a week.) Until then, he gave me some surgical scrub to use once a day to try and dry out the area, and said to use betadine afterwards to additionally try to dry it out. As if a 4' iguana wasn't hard enough to hold on to, now I gotta get her all soapy! It's like the iguana wrestling federation in the bathroom!
The vet also said he thought she looked like she might be in the beginning stages of egg making :( He could not feel any actual eggs, but she's pretty chubby, and he thought she tensed up a bit more than normal when he tried to feel. I didn't think to ask the vet when I was there, but should I up the calcium supplimentation in case she is gravid? If so, by how much? She gets calcium VERY occasionally now (once or twice a month or so), since I try really hard to give her a great diet that produces the nutrients she needs. (Blood test last fall came back great, on the same schedule of infrequent supplimentation.)
Thanks for any help, and I have my fingers crossed the the culture actually finds something so we know how to treat it. (She has two new ones developing!)
