Well you may want to let them know it is very important for the little guys to have room, they are not likt goldfish they grow no matter what, But the best thing to do if money is the issue, go on EBAY or to your local petstore and look for a REPTARIUM!!!!! It is a easy solution for a nice sized cage until he gets bigger, they have tons of sizes, its cheaper online than in a store, check it out!! Home depo has all the same equipment needed to build this reptarium, if your father is handy, he can do it himself! Godd luck and dont let the cat get him.

: Consider building your own cage. Aquariums that are 4 feet or larger will set your parents back some serious money, but building a cage can be done for relatively little expense. Search around online for a good design, or I can mail you one that I used for Phil, who is about 9 months of age. It will last him for a while yet. Try offering to keep the cage in your room or, if the climate where you live is appropriate and you can find a critter-proof design, outside during the spring and summer months.
: While we're at it, what is your setup like now? How about diet and lighting? These are all expenses to keep in mind and, if you can find a reasonable way to present them to your parents, I think they will probably be more receptive. Feel free to email,
