The UV light is actually probably only...well a couple of inches away from him. I lay it right on top of the cage where there are a couple of levels he can choose from (so he can get warmer or cooler). Since it is an open plastic wire mesh cage, I've had a lot harder of a time keeping it warm than in the glass aquarium and I've also added (along with a basking branch with the UV light for heat), I put a small (note small) heat fan that maintains a certain heat and turns off when it gets too warm (or warmer than you set it) above the hammock. He goes to both places. At night I replace the UV light with a regular reptile black light so I can keep some heat, but I remove the fan to allow the temps to drop some. Night temps never get lower than 75, but I'm having a hard time getting day temps past 85 (except right at basking level which are in the 90's). It can get in the high 90s under the fan. Does this sound ok for heat and UV. I didn't realize that the UV was filtered through the glass of the window, I'm glad you pointed that out. My problem area is probably the bottom of his cage which I would honestly have to say is probably as low as 82 during the day. I just can't seem to get it up higher without blasting him in the basking areas.

Since I'm so new to igs, I really can't say that I'm any good and figuring out how he is feeling about what I'm doing. I can say for sure that he is doing a lot better than when I got him. The first couple of days that I got him he would whip his tail against the glass of his aquarium even when we would walk in the same room with him. It would take us about 10 mintues just to change his food and water because he'd try to whip us with his tail because we were entering his territory. Now he readily takes food from my hand, at least tolerates petting even if he doesn't enjoy it and is completely comfortable with our moving about. He only opens his dewlap when he is approached very closely. Although we can't hold him yet, when we do hold him via towel over the head, he struggles very little ahd we are able to poke his head out. :) It was frusterating at first, but the progress has been so...moving. :) I've really fallen in love with this little guy.

I do have another question in case anyone is still reading this post way down here, do igs mind being misted since I'm not able to bathe him yet. He's right next to a humidifier and the humidity levels are always at least 60% plus he does have a bowl large enough to get in (which he does from time to time), but I've tried misting him a few times because he does seem like he's trying to shed a little. If you look closely at the pictures I posted you can see a line of where he has shed on his legs. He doesn't seem to be annoyed or aggrivated by the misting, just sort of looks confused. Like he can't figure out where its coming from. Do you think this bothers him, should I stop? :) So many things to deal with these guys, I could never handle having real children of my own. :)

Thanks for all your help,
Shanna
