My 100 watt flood, also has a silver coat around it. I had one a year or so back, and i blew it cuz i was using a bad socket, but i think active uv heat has redesigned the bulbs. If its a spot when you shine it you will see a small circular of blue light and the rest yellow light like in a regular incadescent, but if its a flood all the light will be blue.
