: It's been awhile since I visited here.. Anyway, I just got a 6 month old iguana a week ago and he/she is quite the little whipper.. Everytime I go to feed him he wants to whip me.. is this normal or am I going to have to wear long sleaved shirts from now on? I've never had such a you one before, I did have a 6-year old that was really good and friendly but I had to give him up to Linda a few years ago.. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Brooke: You might have to be very patient with this one. Mine was a little thing when I got him and it took me just about six months to get him to the point where he wouldn't whip and try to bite me. Do you have any idea how he was treated for the first six months? If he was ignored or treated badly, he doesn't know you won't be different. If he was handled a lot and treated well, he might just be scared and will come around for you.
I handled mine a lot in the beginning. He was in a mesh covered birdcage. I could take it off the stand and put it on the floor and he would run out the bottom. If I didn't do it that way, he would try to bite every time I put my hand in and he would run around the cage. I also used a soft baby blanket to pick him up. If he tried to bite the blanket, it was okay. He finally decided he liked the blanket and still uses it to sleep. In fact, when he's sitting on our computer monitor, I still have to get him off with the blanket because he wants to stay and will try to bite. Once I get him off, he's fine.
Good luck.....nanci
